Shinzo Abe, Japan’s longest-serving Prime Minister, died after being fired at during an election campaign in western Japan’s Nara city, according to Japanese media institution NHK.

The Nara fire department had previously stated that Abe, 67, was in cardiac arrest before being brought to the hospital. He was claimed to have been injured on the right side of his neck and the left collarbone.
